“3 Body Problem Season 2 and 3 Are Officially Happening!” Confirms Directors

Netflix’s 3 Body Problem will top the charts of streaming platforms in upcoming weeks and while we are looking forward to witness this ‘one-of-it’s-kind‘ TV show, series creators are already working for it’s future installments. 3 Body Problem Season 2 Is Already “Under Works!”

The first season is developed by the popular Game of Thrones duo of DB Weiss and David Benioff, coupled up with our Alexander Woo. It is the popularity and talent of this trio that we already knows a lot about this show. No wonder if 3 Body Problem grabs the red carpet award in the near future.

Now that we knows everything about season 1, the creators has officially revealed a lot about 3 Body Problem season 2. Not only this, the trio is looking for multiple seasons. While talking to Collider, the team revealed that they have already mapped out an outline for future seasons.

Benioff hinted that the first two seasons are expected to follow the original plotline taken out straight from Volume 1 and 2 of Cixin Liu’s trilogy. It simply means that we will be able to predict multiple sequences that may or may not take place in the ear future (only if we’ve read the original novel).

To make it even more easier for you, let me tell you that season 1 revolves around the story which begins in 1960s China where a young woman makes a fateful decision that reverberates across space and time into the present day. The show may deal with the original storyline where a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth.

While it looks pretty interesting and catchy at the same time, you may feel that we can finish it off in one season – However, the creators has officially confirmed that the talks for more seasons are already underway inside the company. His full quote reads:

“For Season 2, we’ve got better than a rough idea. We’re much farther along with that plan than rough idea stages. From there on out it becomes, you know, the farther away things get the hazier your view of them is. But there, in the third book, there’s so many amazing landmarks, in terms of scenes and situations and events that we can see pretty clearly, that we know, we’re not completely sure how our characters are gonna get to that place, but we know they gotta get to that place. Because that place and that place and that place are the reason we pick these books up and wanted to adapt them in the first place.”

Now all I can say is that a lot is cooking at Netflix. The very first thing which is enough to assure the audience is the present status of script writing. Alexander and Benioff has mentioned that “they’ve got better than a rough idea” which hints at the escalation in their process. While the 3 Body Problem season 2 is now expected to follow the second volume of Liu’s novel, the other seasons may break this chain.

3 Body Problem : The “Multi-Season” Plan!

Now that 3 Body Problem season 2 is indeed under development, the trio is also excited for more. They won’t stop themselves from making multiple seasons until they feels that way. When asked about the conclusion, Benioff revealed that the ending of Liu’s trilogy is very “beautiful”. He even said that the “last page” of this trilogy presents the final image of this sci-fi saga that fans will witness throughout their journey.

Talking about more seasons that the creators are hinting at the third volume – however this time, season 3 will not follow the theme from the original book. According to him, the length of third book is twice as long as the first two books and that’s the main reason why the first two can be transformed into two separate seasons but the third one may require two more seasons in order to conclude this beautiful saga. The quote reads:

“The third book is massive. It’s twice as long, I think, as the other two books. So maybe that’s one season, maybe it’s two. But, you know, I think we’d need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story.”

While all these hints and comments are enough to assure us about multiple seasons, Benioff and crew is also very “excited” for their filming of 3 Body Problem season 2. The trio revealed that, if the wheels keep turning at the expected – or desired – pace, they’ll have enough material to start shooting an eventual Season 2 as early as this Fall. 

Despite their excitement and anticipation, I would suggest to be patient because great things takes time. Even the officials are also calling this show as “a very labor-intensive”. Weiss admitted that 3 Body Problem is “a very labor-intensive show and it doesn’t get less labor-intensive. It doesn’t get easier to make, it gets harder to make.” They have already asked their audience to stay calm as they won’t rush the process but instead, will take one season at a time.

However, if Netflix renews this show for multiple seasons then the creators would be very happy. Weiss capped it off by stating they “wouldn’t say no” if they got this Avatar-like renewal, but:

“We understand— I think, it’s hard to see eight episodes of something you like and then have it disappear for a long period of time. But it’s really kind of, the only way we can imagine doing it is one Season at a time.”

Long story short: 3 Body Problem season 2 is all set to return on your small screens and I am looking forward to it. While we may have to wait a bit more, the comments of the creative team are enough to ensure us for multiple masterpieces in the near future.
