The holidays season is on and so the time to watch some of the best TV shows along with your families and friends. However, we knows that it is so hard to choose any specific show when it comes to make decisions.
It is obvious because nowadays, we do have a lot of streaming services, companies, studios and what not. In fact, it would be a no brainer to not include the number of releases that we are getting every single month. So if you are feeling confused and lost in the desert of shows, then no need to worry about anything because in this article, I am going to take you through a wild ride with “Five Must-Watch Shows Of 2023” that you should try during your holidays.
Not only the list, but I will be sharing my very own and precise review of every single show, so don’t worry because I’ve tasted each of them for you!
1) The Last Of Us
If we are talking about the ‘best TV-Shows’, then how can we forget about The Last Of Us? Produced by the duo of Greg Spence and Cecil O’Connor, the show is a direct adaptation of the popular gaming series and was aired on 15 January 2023.
You will get 9 episodes in this show and almost each one of them is unique and full of nostalgic moments. Don’t worry, I will share my very own review on this show but before that, let’s take a look on it’s ratings on various critic’s platforms.
So, the show is securing a very decent critics score of 96% and audience score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not enough? Ok, so the show is also garnering a perfect score of 8.8/10 on the popular rating platform IMDB which is enough to say a lot about any IP.
So what is my honest review on ‘The Last Of Us’?
Starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, The Last of Us” isn’t just another post-apocalyptic flick with clickers and fungus. It’s a gut-punch of a show that’ll leave you glued to your screen. Zombie fatigue’s real, even for a newbie like me. But this? This is different.
Pedro Pascal as Joel, a world-weary smuggler, nails that gruff exterior hiding a flicker of humanity. And Bella Ramsey as Ellie, the teenage firecracker he’s tasked with escorting, is a revelation.
The world they inhabit is bleak, sure, but also hauntingly beautiful.
I loved it. But, yeah, I get why some might not. It’s slow-burn at times, more character-driven than action-packed. But that’s what makes it so compelling. It dives deep into the human psyche, exploring themes of loss, grief, and the lengths we’ll go to protect those we love.
So, should you watch? Absolutely. If you’re looking for a show with more than just zombies and explosions, “The Last of Us” is it. Just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. Trust me, the show is worth it.
2) Invincible: Season 2
‘The Last Of Us’ is not the only show which can make your holidays special, the next show on our list is none other then the ‘Invincible Season 2‘.
Before jumping on it’s ratings and reviews, I just want to inform you that if you are planning to watch it during your holidays, then make sure to take away your little kids because this show is very brutal, just like it’s first season.
Picking up the story straight from where the first season left, Invincible Season 2 is showcasing the unique chemistry of our Omni-Man and his seventeen-year-old son Mark Grayson, who knows that his father is the strongest man of this whole planet.
Things becomes complicated when Mark discovers that his father’s super-powers and legacy is not that heroic as it seems and decides to face them off.
With full of bloody actions, brutal fights and emotions, Invincible season 2 is securing the audience score of 89% and critics score of 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. Apart from this, the show is also showing-off it’s phenomenal ratings of 8.7/10 on IMDB.
As per my very own review, if you are looking for a very unique super-hero movie or show, then Invincible season 2 is a perfect choice. The emotional tensions between a father, who is the strongest person of the planet, and his teenage son, who is again the strongest teenager on this planet, is totally mind-boggling.
You’ll get humor, you’ll get actions and you’ll get brutality after every few minutes, and that’s what this franchise is known for. In fact, the characters are developing very beautifully with every new episode which is showcasing a new perspective of the company towards this story.
So what’s the big deal? Should you watch it? Of course you should. Just remember that your kids should avoid it because it is not a good fit for their young minds!
3) Gen V: Season 1
Missing Homelander? Well, Gen V is here!
Now this show is based upon the first generation of super-heroes who will put their physical, moral and mental boundaries at test. Their powers are based upon compound V and hence, the name is Gen V.
Just like Invincible Season 2, Gen V is rated R and will show you a hard language, followed by brutal murder scenes and a lot of blood, blood and again blood. Despite all this, Gen V is sitting over a decent rating of 7.8/10 on IMDB, along with an audience score of 77% and critics score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
I am not a big fan of bloody-based shows but I’ve watched it and hence, I can share my honest review on Gen V. The show begins with some light and heartfelt moments where our protagonists are busy in their school/college stuffs.
Things goes wrong when they discovers their inner abilities which eventually leads them in a new direction. Gen V is showcasing their chemistry in a very beautiful yet a horrific way, which itself sounds very unique or weird to the new viewers but that’s what makes this show a perfect treat for a mature audience.
You’ll see some deep desires of these young superheroes where some will fall in love, while others will fall for their powers. Each episode will show a unique perspective with tons of easter-eggs based upon ‘The Boys‘. I have to admit that the producers, Evan Goldberg, Eric Kripke and Craig Rosenberg are nailing it.
Want to try something new other then the traditional hero-based shows? Gen V is a perfect installment for you. The show is available to stream on Prime Video.
4) Loki: Season 2
Marvel is back!
Loki Season 2 is among the top rated TV shows of 2023, so it would be a no-brainer to make a list of ‘Best Shows’ without including this masterpiece. Produced by Marvel, Loki Season 2 is starring our beloved duo of Tom Hiddlestone aka Loki and Sophie-Di-Martino aka Sylvie.
With six episodes, this show can make your holidays very special. The fact that future of Marvel is being decided by Loki season 2 is glorious and why not, after all our ‘God of Mischief’ can decide anyone’s faith with his tricks. If you are someone who wants to spend a night while watching something which has action, mystery, universal facts and classic yet modern super-heroes, then Loki Season 2 is a best fit for you.
The show is securing an impressive audience score of 86%, followed by the critics score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not only this, the IMDB rating of this glorious installment is 8.2/10.
If you’ll ask me about my personal favorite show of 2023, then it’s definitely none other then our Loki Season 2. As per my clear review, the show will not let you feel confused as it is a direct continuation of it’s previous part. You’ll feel a special connection from it’s very first episode and the cliffhangers are out of this world.
Each episode comes up with a new twist and Mobius, along with our Loki is playing a very crucial role in setting up a perfect base for the future Marvel movies.
The best part of this show is it’s strong motive of presenting something new to it’s audience while binding it’s promises to set up the multiverse saga in a glorious way. It’s a little spoiler but you are truly not ready to witness something unexpected in the season’s finale.
So yeah, that’s my honest review and you should just keep your hopes high, because God of Mischief will take you in his own world!
5) Drops Of God: Season 1
The last on our list is ‘Drops Of God’, which is based upon the genres of mystery, drama and fantasy. Starring Fleur Geffrier, Tomohisa Yamashita, Stanley Weber and Tom Wozniczka, this show is known for surprising everyone with it’s performance, I mean, no one was expecting it to perform well but here we are, mentioning it in our list of TOP 5!
The IMDB rating of this show is phenomenal with a solid 8/10, and if you are underestimating it then you are wrong. Drops Of God is securing the outstanding critics score of 100%, followed by the audience score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It was it’s reviews due to which I myself tried it and now I can say that yes, this show has the potential to dominate over other IP’s.
Talking about my very own review then Drops of God is based upon Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide. The true beauty of this show is the fact that it’s story is unraveled bit by bit. The show is not dealing with any normal story where someone is eager to make a wine, you will be witnessing many deaths and cliffhangers which will lead you to the finale.
As someone who enjoys watching thrilling and mysterious shows, Drops of Gods is the one which was fulfilling my desires of consuming these unique tastes.
The best part is that you can watch it with anyone, even with your kids, which makes it a perfect treat for the whole family during this holidays season. In fact, if rumors to be believed then we might get a second season, but that’s a topic for a different article.
There are many other shows which are available to stream, but the reason of including these five was pretty simple, the ‘tried-and-tested’ formula. We want to deliver you the original content and that’s why I mentioned these five, even after consuming the total of sixteen shows this year.
If you knows something that we don’t, or if you want to suggest anything which should get recognisation, then make sure to comment below. You can also stick around the corner with TV Prism as we covers everything about the latest TV shows.
