Mindy Kaling (creator of “Never Have I Ever” and star of “The Mindy Project”) and Kate Hudson (known for her roles in “Glass Onion” and “Almost Famous”) unveiled their new comedy series, “Running Point,” at the 2024 Netflix Upfront event in New York City. Just in case if you don’t know then it was previously titled as an “Untitled Mindy Kaling Comedy Series.”
While Netflix is bringing us some of the best projects in almost every genre, this one-of-it’s-kind comedy series is expected to deliver a combo of emotions, relations, laughs and shocks. The company has also announced a release window according to which, “Running Point” will debut in 2025 with a grand total of 10-episodes.
The official synipsis reads: “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
Who Is Joining Kate Hudson For “Running Point”?
While the images [check above] are looking just way too perfect, the cast is working like a “cherry-on-top.” So joining the cast of “Running Point” are Brenda Song (from “Dollface” and “The Social Network”), Drew Tarver (“The Other Two” and “Bajillion Dollar Propertie$”), and Scott MacArthur (“Killing It” and “The Righteous Gemstones”). The series also features Fabrizio Guido (“Mr. Iglesias” and “Perry Mason”), Toby Sandeman (“The Game” and “The Royals”), Chet Hanks (“Your Honor” and “Empire”), and familiar faces like Max Greenfield (“The Neighborhood” and “New Girl”). Rounding out the cast are Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada, and Dane DiLiegro.
The creative team behind “Running Point” is led by writers and executive producers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen (known for their work on “The Mindy Project” and “Central Intelligence”). Joining them as executive producers are Kate Hudson, Howard Klein (“The Office” and “Late Night”), Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis (“Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers”).
As of now, production for “Running Point” is handled by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International, partnering with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling has an ongoing production deal. More updates are expected to land within next couple of months, so I will be updating this article as soon as I gets any.
