Anne Hathaway Celebrates 5 Years of Sobriety, Prioritizing Motherhood and Well-Being

Anne Hathaway, known for her captivating performances in films like “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Les Misérables,” is celebrating a milestone she holds dear: five years of sobriety. In a recent interview with The New York Times, the actress turned the spotlight away from her 40th birthday and onto this personal achievement.

“There are so many other things I identify as milestones,” Hathaway shared. “I don’t normally talk about it, but I am over five years sober. That feels like a milestone to me.” This decision to prioritize her well-being stemmed from her role as a mother. Back in 2019, she opened up on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” about wanting to be fully present for her son, Jonathan.

I’m gonna stop drinking while my son’s living in my house,” she said at the time. “I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school, I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one.”

Hathaway has since welcomed another son with her husband, Adam Shulman. Her initial goal was to remain sober for 18 years, coinciding with her children reaching adulthood. It an be seen from her comment where she said:

I didn’t put [a drink] down because my drinking was a problem; I put it down because the way I drink leads me to have hangovers and those were the problem,” Hathaway clarified in a later interview with Modern Luxury. “My last hangover lasted for five days.

“Family” Will Be The Focus Point For Anne Hathaway!

While Hathaway envisions a future where moderate drinking might be back on the table, her present focus remains on her family. “When I’m at a stage in my life where there is enough space for me to have a hangover, I’ll start drinking again, but that won’t be until my kid is out of the house,” she previously stated.

Well, I’d say that Hathaway’s journey is a testament to the multifaceted reasons behind choosing sobriety. It’s a decision that aligns with a growing trend of celebrities like Jessica Simpson and Chrissy Teigen who have openly discussed their own paths to well-being. Teigen recently commemorated her year of sobriety on Instagram, acknowledging the challenges and the positive impact on her mental health.

Anne Hathaway’s story reminds us that prioritizing self-care and well-being can take many forms. For her, it meant choosing a path that allowed her to be the best version of herself, both on and off screen, especially when it comes to her role as a mother.
